If not send it in for routine maintenance per the instruction book wish I would have. I used my first until the bearing on the shaft disentegrated and could not be repaired economically. I used mine in a commercial application so if your a hobbyist it probably will out live you. Most of my work requiring a sander is on boats working with fiberglass and epoxy resins which usually are very hard and most of the time in tight spaces. All in all this is one excellent unit, the best of all detail sanders. This unit will strip paint and remove stock rapidly as well as providing a good finish surface. I purchased my first Bosch 1294v 4 years ago and was very pleased with the results. The vaccum ability is excellent which keeps the mess and dust down, very important when working with hazardous materials.
I quit for the day to let it cool down. I'm taking it to the Bosch repair depot tomorrow. I've had my sander for just a few weeks. The next morning, it came to a grinding halt and sent out a small "smoke signal" to say it had had enough. Very disappointing. As others have said, you can't buy sandpaper for it at Lowe's or Home Depot.I've spent a lot of money with [.]. However, towards the end of my second project, it seemed that the unit was running more slowly than normal.
It sands quickly and effortlessly even on hardwoods like oak. It makes switching back and forth with different grits of paper easier and faster. This sander is well built, durable, and easy to use.
I use extra backing pads to hold different grits of sanding paper triangles. For small projects, that is not an issue. When I switch from a heavy or medium grit paper to a finer grit paper, I simply replace the pad equipped with the desired grit instead of peeling the paper off of the pad and replacing it with the proper grit paper.
After comparing several detail sanders, I decided to get this Bosch kit and I have not been disappointed. I had to do some searching to find replacement accessories for it but finally found everything at circlesaw.com. Amazon.com has this sander attractively priced and the sander provides a lot of bang for the buck.
I have used this sander on a number of projects already and absolutely love the performance it provides. Changing out the backing pads is so easy and requires no tools.
Now if any of you out there can help me get him to understand that we ladies like jewelry as much as men like power tools, I'd appreciate your input. Not only did we get the Christmas morning whoops of joy, but I hear about this project or that project on a weekly basis - so he must love it. Each year for Christmas it's my job to find the perfect "power tool" for my boyfriend. I cannot tell you how pleased he has been with this year's gift, his Bosch sander.
I hooked up the adapter (VAC002) and found that it fit the tool great but the other end was a tad large for my smaller shopvac connection. Noise and vibration are there, but not nearly as bad as one would think. I tried it out and this really works great.
Sanding with the vacuum on was great. The adjustable speed helps keep control of the unit as well. I used it on some "finish yourself" cabinates and it worked just fine.
I ordered this through Amazon and they shipped it out fast (as usual). (not sure why the other guys who rated the VAC002 didn't think of that). Wonderful little unit; if you have need of sanding and don't want the mess, you really should order one for yourself.
I had on old B/D Mouse sander that was breaking down and always got sawdust everywhere. To remidy this, just wrap some black tape around the end of the hose and you are ready to go.
